Digital Delay is designed to fit when a tape or analog delay doesn’t work. At its core is an engine that produces pristine repeats for a clear, unfiltered sound. Classic controls change the number of taps, filter the high end and low end, set the width of the stereo field, and add diffusion to smear the delays.
Two pitch voices take it further. Cascading delays can sometimes sound metallic in the high end and muddy in the low, so a Formants option tames the cascading frequencies. For the times when cascading isn’t wanted, Fixed mode shifts the pitch before the feedback loop so the repeats only shift one time. Fast and Precise modes handle low frequencies differently, with Fast mode rolling off detection as the notes get low while Precise continues to track well into the bass frequencies.
The Advanced Function adds a bit/frequency crusher to capture the sound of digital when it goes wrong. It can recreate classic sounds, such as vintage 12-bit delays. Or it can be pushed until the repeats turn into digital noise. A frequency Rate knob squashes the rate, too. Put the Bit Crusher in motion by twisting the Fall knob, which will send the Bit Depth and/or the Rate knob up or down from their current positions. Sync it to the music or let it run freely. Finally, the Play section allows the input signal to be played Forward, flipped to Reverse, or faded in with Swell. The Attack knob shaves off the transients so your reverses can stay smooth and your forward delays don’t detract from the melody with unwanted pick attacks.
