01 · The problem

An artist’s idea in a session called for running multiple effects across different aux sends, then summing them all into one master aux. All of that routing and processing belonged in one plugin. The idea for the FX Console was born.

The studio: monitors on stands either side of a screen carrying a large multitrack session, with a control surface and monitor controller on the desk.

02 · Taken apart

The effects in the FX Console needed to be equal in quality to standalone effects. So each Boutique Series effect was split into modules that can be used in the FX Console. Same sound. Different purpose.

FX Console modules laid over one another: the coloured effect modules on top, among them Chorus, Phaser, Tape Echo, Fuzz, Reverb, Drive, Feedback, Spring, Pitch and Optical Tremolo, with the utility modules such as Comp, EQ, De-esser and Width beneath.
Pick any module and combine it with any other.

03 · Put back together

With the modules available in the FX Console, complex effects chains are easy to create. A vocal saturation chain right next to a reverb and delay, each one EQ-ed and filtered to fit perfectly in the mix. A shimmer reverb that attenuates with every regeneration so the octaves never jump out. A vocal throw with four channels, each channel with a different style of echo for every section of the song. Best of all, open a session days later and see exactly how the audio was routed and processed in one glance.

Two FX Console channels side by side: a vocal chain of de-esser, drive, comp and EQ, next to crossover, tape echo, reverb and filter.

04 · Organic motion

Automatically morph between effects on two channels so nothing gets stagnant. Use the Rhythmic Gate modules to trigger effects in time. Switch to Beat Mode in the FX Console and turn each Module Slot into a sixteen step FX sequencer, with the modules triggering in perfect time with the music. The FX Console is designed to make it easy to put your effects in motion.

The FX Console with a Rhythmic Gate module at the top of all four channels, each gating a different chain: filter, bit crush and chorus; pitch into tape echo; drive, de-esser and reverb; optical tremolo and soften.
Rhythmic Gate modules allow for creative effects that open and close with the music. Or use Morph to move between the settings on two channels.
The FX Console in Beat Mode: under each channel, sixteen steps of probability and velocity controls; on the master, the sequencer's division, steps and swing, with run, trigger and sequence modes.
Beat Mode turns the FX Console into an FX sequencer. Select up to 16 steps and choose how the sequencer moves through the effects. The trigger modes and probability parameters allow the sequence to be as controlled or chaotic as you want.
